Below is a trip recap from Taylor Sharp, Director of Student Discipleship at York Alliance Church
In July, our youth group had the opportunity to partner with Amoveo Group to spend a week learning, serving, and exploring the city of Philadelphia. On July 9, eleven students and four adults traveled to Philly with few expectations, energy, and more questions in preparation for our week!
Upon arriving at the Philadelphia International Alliance Church, Matt Peace orientated our team about the week ahead and all the different ethnicities and nationalities surrounding the few blocks of the Upper Darby neighborhood we were based. We were all fascinated and couldn’t wait to learn more. Then our team was challenged to go out and meet people from three different countries. Within an hour, our four mini teams returned with several stories, having met people from all over the world and from all different walks of life. The students were enthralled, and their hearts grew in love and compassion for the world around them.
After a week of serving in a community center, two churches with food banks, a home doing repairs for refugees, and a final church helping with some clean-up, the team had bonded over some funny stories, some of the hottest days of the summer, and recognizing that every person has a story, including their peers. Compassion and love continued to grow in our students' hearts as they recognized each person's beauty, created in the image of God, struggling with things that hit a lot closer to home than they ever would have imagined.
We are immeasurably grateful for the experience Amoveo was able to organize and execute for our week together. The impact will be lifelong, Lord-willing. We are thankful for the work of Matt Peace, Tim Brokopp, and Ms. Susan, as well as the gracious hosts from the Philadelphia International Alliance Church.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
